Shopping is an increasingly important part of travel. The growth of domestic and international tourism in Sweden also means growth in shopping tourism in Gothenburg. Every year, tourism produces more than SEK 23 billion in turnover for the Gothenburg region. One third of this is spent on shopping.
Developing profitable and attractive shopping tourism requires a combination of efforts from many different directions. By co-ordinating marketing and highlighting activities, we can reinforce and build on the attraction of Gothenburg as a shopping destination.
On the initiative of the Swedish Property Federation and Swedish Trade Federation in Gothenburg, and the Trade & Industry Group at Göteborg & Co, a programme is now being implemented to develop and increase the attraction of Gothenburg as a shopping destination over a three-year period.
The goal is that Gothenburg should become a city for future trade. The partnership aims to encourage visitors to come to Gothenburg to shop, rather than shopping when they happen to be in Gothenburg.
