  • Project to develop cruise tourism becomes current business

    19 October, 2011

Göteborg & Co and the Port of Gothenburg have worked together for three year to develop cruise tourism in Gothenburg. The project has been very successful and will now go on as a current business.

Cruise Tourism in Gothenburg has developed rapidly in recent years. Just over a five-year period (2006-2011) the number of cruise calls tripled. This year, 65 000 cruise passengers is visiting Gothenburg, and the number for next year is estimated 75 000.

    Why such a success?

    - We have worked actively together with the port, have been participating in trade fairs and visting cruise companies. Gothenburg’s geographical position between Copenhagen and Oslo is an advantage that makes Gothenburg attractive even for already existing tours, says Sara Eriksson, Project Manager at Göteborg & Co.

This week Sara Eriksson and Jill Södervall at the port of Gothenburg is on a sales tour to Miami and Los Angeles where they will meet with nine cruise lines.
